Today, blogging is not all about writing rich content articles, you need to put lots of SEO efforts to bring your articles at the top of search engine results. There are thousands of blogs launched everyday therefore competition to remain at the top of search results has been increased. In this post, I’ll be discussing the importance of sitemaps and I’ll tell you how to submit blogger sitemap on Google, Yahoo, Bing, and Yandex.
To get more page views, you need to add eye-catching titles and compelling post meta descriptions and apart from that, you will have to ensure that search engines are able to index your pages. If search engines are not indexing your content properly then all of your slog over vanishes.
So, to make sure that major search engines can crawl your site content, you should submit your sitemap to them.
As you may already aware that sitemap contains a list of your site’s webpages. And with the help of it, search engines easily search information of your pages.
To know whether your site is indexed properly or not, you will need to add following search query in Google search:
Upon searching it on Google, Bing, Yahoo, and Yendex, all of your indexed webpages will appear and then you can see whether your entire site is indexed or not.
Usually, if your site is small then you don’t need to submit a sitemap to get it indexed and search engines automatically collect information of your site. Just, you will need to make sure that you have enabled indexing feature onto your blog. To know whether indexing is enabled or disabled, see screenshot given below:
If you think your blog is large and you should submit a sitemap for it or you think your blog is not fully indexed then you can read on to know how to submit a sitemap on major search engines.
How to Submit Blogger Sitemap on Google, Yahoo, Bing and Yandex –
1. Submit sitemap on Google search –
To submit your blog sitemap on Google, go to Google Search Console and then login to it with your Gmail login credentials (If you don’t know how to reach to Google Search Console then just search it on Google with same keywords). And from the homepage click on ‘Add A Property’.
In the next step, a pop-up box will appear on your computer screen, simply enter URL of your Blogger blog and hit add button.
In the next page, you’ll need to verify your site ownership, for that purpose, you will see multiple options. Simply click on the radio button next to ‘HTML tag’ and then copy the code.
Now, without closing Google console tab, open a new tab in your browser and login to Blogger dashboard. From the sidebar, click on theme and then click on edit HTML.
Click anywhere inside the HTML editor and press Ctrl+F to open search box. Now, type </head> in the search box and hit enter. Simply, paste the copied HTML tag before the end head tag. Subsequently, click on save theme button to save your changes.
Now, go back to Google console page, and hit verify button. That’s it. You will see a successful verification message. Now, go back to homepage and click on your newly added property.
From the sidebar, click on sitemaps under crawl category. Subsequently, click on add/test sitemap.
Just add sitemap.xml in the box and hit submit button. That’s it. Your blog will be indexed within 24 to 48 hours. Sometimes, indexing takes more time.
2. Submit sitemap on Bing and Yahoo –
You don’t need to add sitemap on Yahoo and Bing separately. Just add your sitemap to Bing and it’ll be used on both engines.
First of all, visit Bing Webmaster Tools website and sign in with your Hotmail account or sign up if you don’t own an account.
After signing in, enter URL of your blog and hit add button.
In the next page, just enter your sitemap URL which is your blog address followed by /sitemap.xml. Then press add button.
Note: You can add time slot when your site gets maximum visitors. If you’re not aware then let it be as default.
Next, you’ll need to verify your site ownership. Just copy HTML tag showing under option 2 and in Blogger html editor paste it just before the </head> tag, as we did to add sitemap to Google, and then click on save theme.
Go back to Bing Webmaster page and hit verify button. That’s it. Your site and its sitemap have been added to Bing search engine.
3. Add sitemap to Yandex –
Yandex is a renowned Russian search engine. If your targeted audience is international then you can take benefit from it. To submit your sitemap on this search engine follow the steps given below.
Visit Yandex Webmaster Tools website. From the homepage of the site, click on login and then register and create a new account.
Once you create an account on Yandex, login to it with your user id and password.
After getting access to Yandex Webmaster Tools, click on + icon showing at the top of the page and then enter URL of your blog. Subsequently, hit add button.
Copy the meta tag and paste it in your Blogger blog’s HTML editor section, as we did before, and save the theme.
From Yandex page, click on check button.
After adding your site, from the side panel, click on indexing and select sitemap files. Then enter sitemap url which is your site address followed by /sitemap.xml. Thereafter, press add button.
That’s it. Now, we have successfully added our site/blog to renowned search engines. Once your site gets indexed by all of them then you can go back to see whether there are any kind of crawling errors.
